Leadership and management styles

¿Do you think the power of vision have been overestimated or underestimated in giving direction to business?

Talking about Colombia the vision has been particularly underestimated because we have no Geopolitical knowledge of the world and the development of our country had been set according to the government proposals. The guidelines of each president in the foreign policy were focused on the “Respice Pollum, Respice Similia and Respice Omnia” and even today we continue follow the North Star when there are other and better markets to pursue.

Ethical Behaviour and International Business

 “All capitalism is crony capitalism”
According to the definition of Encarta encyclopedia:
“Enrichment of well-connected: the flow of wealth to a small group of people who are already wealthy and well connected
http://encarta.msn.com/dictionary_561538450/crony_capitalism.html

I agree with this sentence because this is what we are living in Colombia where rich people are getting richer and poor people are getting poorer. Wealth is concentrated in a small group of entrepreneurs who through his contacts with other powerful individuals, influence trade and the environment in which they operate makes remain them in “crony capitalism"
“Banana Republic”
According to the definition of Encarta encyclopedia:
Small dictatorship: a small country with an unstable government and an economy dependent on the export of a single product or on outside financial help (disapproving)

The author compares it to India because this country is experiencing an internal corruption that is affecting the most vulnerable community. Moreover, corporations like “Radiation Tapes” are manipulating and driving this country and it is evidenced in the administrations of licenses and the power used to launch the candidates of their choice.

The problem that “the Media” become a corporation is first of all because the Media have the power over the flow of information and the type of information and it reaches anywhere in the world. Today we can see that the Media is a big influence of mass people and also of public opinion and this can be managed for the benefit of a few.

It is considered unethical for journalists to misuse of information and its manipulation to convey to the masses present concepts. And for the State to enable that corporations are those with the power to govern and to choose the representative who corrupts the administration of certain state institution.

The state is the main engine of a country if this becomes corrupt it ends with all the performance of a nation,; on its way so it is necessary to create awareness of working for a better country and collective benefit.

Encourage the community to exercise their right to vote because we are a democratic country where everyone must ensure the proper development of the nation supporting policies that help improve the current condition of the country.

It is also very important that the education be a tool in the development of a nation because it provides the rationality is needed to avoid getting bad influences.

Information should be direct by a body and not influenced neither by a Corporation nor by the State in order to ensure accuracy and transparency.

The law should be stronger in order to ensure their inviolability and the respect of the corporate management.

The rise of Multinational Corporation

How can we ensure corporations are held accountable for their actions “ethically” and “legally”?

The way of perceiving the world has changed gradually over the past 20 years. However corporate design is maintained in term of creating wealth for their owners and avoids responsibilities and the worst part of this is that this is causing big damage that in some cases it is well-known for everyone.

Corporations are supported by the market as an arbitrator and at the same time they look for legal strategies to gain benefits. To ensure that corporations are held accountable for their actions there should be stronger penalties such as establishing an income tax to cover damage resulting from the development of its business, confiscation of their assets, temporary closures of factories, etc. This is in order to influence corporations’ thoughts about a doubt whether they should respect the law or wait for the government punishments.

Further the government requiring of annual returns filed by the premise of putting their own interests above others, there must be also a require reports of interventions and contributions in benefits societies and environmental care and also on reducing damages and last the plan for change.

Organizational Behavior

Which ones are the main challenges?

Today’s world is immersing in a corporate competition and cost pressures and it makes that organizations look for improving quality and productivity, but it can be achieve with the understanding of organizational behavior, where managers face three challenges which are: Globalization, Workforce diversity, and ethics.

Responding to globalization in terms to maintain competitive advantage and specialization is necessary to employ, reengineering and techniques like downsizing, outsourcing, and restructuring it helps the organization remain on his objectives and also in the struggle to maintain in the market.

Organizations are also becoming more heterogeneous; they are constantly looking for diversity in the work force because it provides different vision not only inside the company but also in the international market developing his operation. Finally there is a demand for ethical behavior that is translated in to reasoning for improving business.

BLOGS THAT STAND ME OUT

I found this blog quite interesting because join young people as a community that are creating awareness about global warming, and advocate the sustainable management of resources through their views. They make a strong criticism about what is happening in today’s world, they also conduct campaigns to change public policy and individual behavior to build a more just and sustainable future.
Khamin is a writer for an English newspaper; he is also a reporter of youth crime in Bangladesh and professional photographer. This blog caught my attention because it contains a photo gallery related with the topics that he investigate most of them about corruption, social injustice and violence and it is kind of impressive how pictures reflect those things.

This is a very entertaining blog. It is about a trip around the world where the traveler Pak Muñoz describes the different stories and places that he visited. In this blog you can find unusual things like when he learned to fly in Bolivia and a motorcycle riding on bus in Laos. Also there are several recommendations and instructions for travelers.
